Holmdel HYAA Alumni Shake up the Region V Tournament

Here are the results from the Group V High School tournament this weekend for our HYAA alumni wrestlers:

Big weekend for the Hornets as Junior Scott Dupont (152lbs) recorded his 100th career win on his way to a 3rd place finish at 152 in Region V . He will be Holmdel’s first State Tournament qualifier since 1984. Scott started his caree on the HYAA mats and it has been great watching him grow into a powerhouse in his weight class.

Senior Troy Gallo (132lbs) wrestled in a tough OT match early Saturday morning and ultimately finished in 5th place. Troy has had a storied HYAA and high school career and needless to say we are very proud of him. He currently holds the all time wins record for the high school and has been an amazing captain and leader of the team. His finish in Regions means he will be the alternate for States in case one of the top four wrestlers is unable to wrestle in AC.

Chris Ammirati (160lbs), a senior made some real noise as well finishing in 8th place. Chris is another HYAA alumni with a very strong career record of a 103 career wins, making him 3rd all time. We are really going to miss watching Chris on the mats. He is one of those wrestlers that never ever gave up and that will serve him well in life…Oh and if you see any baseballs flying over the right field fence this spring that’s probably him!

Troy’s brother, Dean (138lbs) is a sophomore who also wrestled tough in Regions and finished in 8th place. Dean had a great HYAA career and has obviously continued that success in high school. We can’t wait to see him back on the mat next year. Great season Dean!

Seamus Wood (220lbs) is another HYAA alumni. Shamus, a senior on the team, finished 3rd in the districts but lost in prelims in regions. Seamus was a steady force throughout his HYAA and high school career and is living proof that a strong wrestler makes a better football player. Good luck Seamus, we will miss you!!

Dean, Scott and Chris were district champs this year.
There is some ridiculous history being made with this team lately.

Mike Todisco Wins JSJWL Civil War

Feb 22, 2017

Michael Todisco rolled into Shore Regional High School last night with a 15-0  Jersey Shore Junior Wrestling League (JSJWL) record at 56 lbs along with the ‘B’ Division crown. He was on a mission to win on the biggest stage of the JSWJL season, the ‘Civil War’.

The Civil War match pits the ‘A’  bracket winners against  the ‘B’ bracket winners from last weekend’s individual JSJWL tournaments.   It is an intense night of competition where making mistakes is not an option.  At the end of the night the winners of each match at the Civil War form a team that practices together and represents the JSJWL in state wide matches against other grade school All Star teams.

The ‘A’ Division has some stiff competition but Michael did not let that stop him from believing he could win. Michael faced a strong opponent in AJ Falcone from Howell’s ‘A’ Team and they wrestled within a point of each other the entire match. Michael was behind by one point late in the third and it was not looking good, Falcone rode him out of bounds a few times and the clock was ticking down. With two seconds left, Michael scored a two point reversal to win the match. It was one of the most exciting matches of the night and the large Holmdel contingent roared when the referee raised his hand.

Michael is now part of the Jersey Shore All Star team. The Jersey Shore All Star team is consistently strong every year and wins the state championship frequently.  With Michael on the team we have a feeling this trend will continue.

Good luck Moose from the entire Holmdel Wrestling Family!

Thomas Ilvento also was part of the ‘B’ team. Thomas entered the tournament undefeated and wrestled Portella from Shore. He wrestled tough throughout the match but lost the decision. Congratulations to Thomas on a great season!

Chris Ammirati Gets 100 Wins!

Another HYAA Alumni is in the news! Congratulations to Chris Ammirati, a senior at Holmdel High School. Chris is now the third wrestler to have 100 wins. Chris is one of four wrestlers in the Ammirati family and we all wish him well in the  year end tournaments.

Troy Gallo Makes Holmdel History with 100 Wins !!

Congratulations to Troy Gallo for making Holmdel High School wrestling history as only the second wrestler to have 100 wins. Troy is an alumni of the HYAA wrestling program and has made us proud every time he has stepped on the mat. He is a great wrestler and even more important, a great representative of our sport.
