Holmdel HYAA Alumni Shake up the Region V Tournament

Here are the results from the Group V High School tournament this weekend for our HYAA alumni wrestlers:

Big weekend for the Hornets as Junior Scott Dupont (152lbs) recorded his 100th career win on his way to a 3rd place finish at 152 in Region V . He will be Holmdel’s first State Tournament qualifier since 1984. Scott started his caree on the HYAA mats and it has been great watching him grow into a powerhouse in his weight class.

Senior Troy Gallo (132lbs) wrestled in a tough OT match early Saturday morning and ultimately finished in 5th place. Troy has had a storied HYAA and high school career and needless to say we are very proud of him. He currently holds the all time wins record for the high school and has been an amazing captain and leader of the team. His finish in Regions means he will be the alternate for States in case one of the top four wrestlers is unable to wrestle in AC.

Chris Ammirati (160lbs), a senior made some real noise as well finishing in 8th place. Chris is another HYAA alumni with a very strong career record of a 103 career wins, making him 3rd all time. We are really going to miss watching Chris on the mats. He is one of those wrestlers that never ever gave up and that will serve him well in life…Oh and if you see any baseballs flying over the right field fence this spring that’s probably him!

Troy’s brother, Dean (138lbs) is a sophomore who also wrestled tough in Regions and finished in 8th place. Dean had a great HYAA career and has obviously continued that success in high school. We can’t wait to see him back on the mat next year. Great season Dean!

Seamus Wood (220lbs) is another HYAA alumni. Shamus, a senior on the team, finished 3rd in the districts but lost in prelims in regions. Seamus was a steady force throughout his HYAA and high school career and is living proof that a strong wrestler makes a better football player. Good luck Seamus, we will miss you!!

Dean, Scott and Chris were district champs this year.
There is some ridiculous history being made with this team lately.
